RE:
Request for Application and Guidelines for Funding
The
Distressed Equine Foundation would like to introduce you to our
community based non-profit organization. Our mission is to provide
financial assistance for the humane treatment of acutely distressed
horses.
Horses
experiencing undue pain and suffering, whether it be from incurable
disease, inoperable colic or catastrophic injury will be offered
humane treatment options administered by licensed Veterinarians.
The
foundation has based its philosophy on several unique and innovative
features.
· ANY Veterinarian can request funds
· All horses in our communities can benefit, unlike in-house
or veterinarian specific programs
· Veterinarians obtain a pledge of financial support while
standing horse-side
· Simple and quick process of qualifying horses
· Critical care can be provided immediately
We
have criteria in place to be sure that horses with financial need
are sponsored. A complete list of our guidelines and the 5 simple
questions to qualify a horse can be found on our website www.distressedequine.org
or through any board member.
Our
fund raising program of assembling and selling equine first aid
kits has become beneficial in more ways than we could have imagined.
The kits educate horse owners about emergency situations and provides
them with an excellent source of appropriate items in an emergency.
Critical to our cause, they are raising awareness about horses who
are in acutely distressed situations. Conviently, the kits are available
for purchase on our web site.
In
April of this year, we held an emergency-planning seminar and workshop
for horse owners to better prepare them for emergency situations.
The seminar was sponsored by Morgan Equine Veterinary and Farrier
Hospital in Locke, NY. In August, we will be hosting a training
session for community Equine Veterinarians. As an essential piece
of the puzzle they have been extremely responsive and supportive
of our efforts.
Please
join us in our vision to serve the horses of the community that
may otherwise be overlooked and suffer unnecessarily. With committed
members that make up a talented Board of Directors, community Veterinarians
and financial supporters such as yourself, this is an attainable
goal.
If you would
like more information about our organization, or have suggestions
and comments for us, please do not hesitate to contact any of the
following officers and board members. Application materials can
be forwarded to our PO BOX as listed above, faxed to 607-898-5733
or emailed to info@distressedequine.com.
Sincerely,
The Distressed Equine Foundation Officers and Board of Directors
